Healthy Mind and Body

health benefits of infrared sauna
I always hear the experts say that those people who sweat a lot are healthier compared to those who does not sweat much; unfortunately, I belong to the latter group. So during the time when I used to go the gym I always make it a point to spend at least 20 minutes in the infrared sauna, which is one of the many amenities available at the fitness club where I was a member.

If you think that going to a sauna is purely luxury, you better think again. Why? Because going to a sauna and profuse sweating brings a lot of health benefits, which includes:
  • Detoxification. It has been proven that sweating enhances the detoxification process by effectively flushing out all the toxins in our body; thereby, helping our body stay healthy.
  • Improved blood circulation. It is also a known fact that sauna increases and improves blood circulation. It is also believed that exposure to heat stimulates the production of white blood cells which strengthens the immune system.
  • Weight Loss. Do you know that be going to a sauna you lose about 300 calories per session? This is equivalent to the amount of calories that we shed off during a moderate exercise. Thus, sauna combined with a balanced diet and regular exercise could make you really fit in no time.
  • Relieves Aches and Pains. Sauna is also very effective in relaxing our body. The heat and humidity of a sauna was found to be very effective in releasing the tension from our tired muscles.
  • Tension and Stress Relief. Since sauna effectively relaxes our body, it relieves us from physical and mental stress.
Sweating can really do wonders to our body so if you have the time to go to a sauna, don’t let the opportunity pass you by. It may even prove to be the cheapest way to stay healthy and fit. Just a reminder though, don’t stay in the sauna longer than 40 minute because staying more than the time required could cause dehydration and overheating the body which is somewhat similar to a sunstroke. It is also advisable to drink lots of fluids before going and after the sauna to avoid dehydration.
