Do you feel that the long weekend that we just had during the All Saints Day a little “bitin”? Well, good news because we are in for another long weekend! Under Proclamation No. 276, November 7 has been declared by MalacaƱang as a regular non-working holiday in observance of Eidul Adha.
Based from the bits and pieces that I have read, Eidul Adha is the last of the two Eid festivals being celebrated by our Muslim brothers and sisters, the first being the Eid’l Fitr. It is the also called the Feast of Sacrifice because it is during this occasion that the Muslims commemorates the willingness of Prophet Abraham to sacrifice his own son for God. During the observance of Eidul Adha, the Muslims make a sacrifice of a living animal which may be a goat, a camel or a sheep, as a reminder of the value of self-denial.
The declaration of a regular holiday was actually base from recommendation made by the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) that the observance of Eidul Adha be on November 7 and the Eidul Adha prayer on Sunday, November 6.
Aside from the long-weekend that we all look forward to, it is also a good way of showing our Muslims brothers that we are with them in the observance of these important Eid festivals that they celebrate.
